Speaking of clothes
Before using all of your t-shirts to wrap up grandma’s fine china, set aside the clothes that you will need to wear during the transition. A good rule is the have enough clothing for 1 – 2 weeks. Make sure that you clearly label those boxes, and keep them somewhere that can be easily accessed.
The bare necessities
Spend some time thinking about what you will absolutely need access to while your life is a collection of boxes in various states of being unpacked. Medications, toiletries, documents, phone chargers, the dog’s food and water bowls. You get the drill. Pack these items together, label the boxes, and make sure they don’t go missing.
Time to call in some favors
Ask your friends and family to help. We all know that moving isn’t the most fun activity, and it’s even less so when it’s not your stuff, so remember to treat those precious few who begrudgingly agree to help like the shining gems they are. Keep them fed and hydrated. During the move provide light snacks and water to keep everyone active. After the move? Did somebody say pizza and beer?
